Interview
Q. Do you keep a wishlist? If so, what is your MOST WANTED item at the moment?
A. I don’t keep a wish list. When I have a need for something, either I make it myself or I go on a search for it in my favorite designers’ stores. In scrapbooking, I have a definite need for instant gratification. I think this is because when I am in the middle of a project, be it a new collection or just a new layout, I’m in this zone that it is hard for me to leave until the project is finished.
Q. What is your designing routine, i.e. do you get a snack, put on music, get organized and then work on a kit until its finished or do you pop in and out as time allows?
A. I like to grab a cup of coffee before I sit down at the computer. Some kits come easier than others. If I’ve got my mojo on, and the ideas are flowing I can work for hours on end. If not, then I get up from the computer and do something else. Inevitably (usually in the middle of the night), the ideas start to come. I keep a journal at the computer and one in my purse for jotting down ideas for color schemes and elements that seem to pop into my head at the oddest moments. My family and friends all know that nothing is exempt from becoming an element or kit idea. My very first kit “Spring Greens” was inspired by my mother-in-law’s shower curtain!
Q. When you scrap, do you use your own products?
A. Of course I use my own products—I tend to like most of them a lot (LOL)! But, I also scrap with other designers kits, how could I not? There are so many great designers out there whose work I admire, and when I see something I like, I buy it. I might not use it right away, I might even forget that I have it, but when I find it again it’s like a brand new treat all over again.
Q. What is your all-time favorite product OR what is your best selling product(s)?
A. That’s a tough question, because I think every time I design a kit it becomes my new favorite. I’ve been designing for almost seven years now and it still seems like I learn something new every day that will help make each kit better than the last. If I had to choose a favorite kit, though, I think I would choose Memory Lane. I think my heritage kits are my best work.
Q. What are your reasons or motivations for digital scrapbooking?
A. I truly want to leave a legacy for future generations. I have always been the family historian. I can trace my mother’s paternal ancestry back to the 1700’s at this point. I am currently (or should I say “still”) working on a project I call “The Never-ending Story”. It will be a family history album that each of my six brothers and sisters will receive a copy of when it’s done.
Actually, if you ask my husband, he will tell you that I’m obsessed with scrapbooking, but I like to think that I’m more passionate than obsessed.
Q. What is the best food you ever ate? Describe.
A. Another tough question. My mother, my grandmothers, myself, and all of my sisters are excellent cooks so I’ve had plenty of great food in my lifetime. I love to eat out and try new and interesting cuisine. I had the best veal scaloppini I ever ate at a restaurant on the river, years ago. Once I discovered it I got it every time we went there. I have yet to find a recipe that compares to it. That restaurant closed down over ten years and I still think about it. In fact, my mouth is watering as I type…
While it’s actually not “food”, but I have to mention International Delight’s Almond Joy coffee creamer. I drink my coffee black, but this stuff is wonderful added to hot chocolate, or just plain warm milk. I also like to add it into some of my recipes, like French toast, or pour some into my hot cereal in the morning.
Q. Where is your “happy place?”
A. My happy place is anywhere that I am surrounded by family and friends. That usually means home. I love our home—it’s a simple, comfortable place to hang out, both indoors and out.
Q. If you won the lottery, how would you spend the winnings?
A. Finally, an easy question! I would pay off all my debt, set my son up in his own dinner theater business, build myself a smaller house, and travel. I would also pay off all six of my siblings and my husband’s siblings mortgages and help them out in any way I could.
Q. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you chose and what would you want to talk about?
A. As I have been working on my heritage album again recently, I think I would like to speak to my great-grandfather Moise Belleck. He was a full-blooded Indian from Canada. He worked as a lumberjack all over the country. I’m sure that he could fill in a lot of blanks for me as far as that part of the family is concerned.
Q. What else should we know about you?
A. I am a very laid-back, open and honest individual. I am a voracious reader. I read every night before I go to bed. The fact is, I can’t remember the last time I didn’t read at night. It must have been when my son was young! I could live happily in a world with no television. I love board games, word games and puzzles, and Sudoku. I prefer coffee over tea, dark chocolate over milk chocolate, and red wine over white.

1. Do you keep a wishlist? If so, what is your MOST WANTED item at the moment?
I don’t keep a wish list. When I want a particular product I either make it myself of buy it when needed.
2. What is your designing routine, i.e. do you get a snack, put on music, get organized and then work on a kit until its finished or do you pop in and out as time allows?
If I’m on a roll—with a great color scheme, and a really good idea—I’ve been known to sit in front of the computer for eight hours at a stretch. On the other hand, if the ideas aren’t flowing, I tend to work in fits and starts. As far as organization goes, I have a very disorganized style of organization! I know where everything is, but an outsider might be a bit bewildered…
3. When you scrap, do you use your own products?
I scrap a lot with my own products. As any designer knows, it hard to find time to do much personal scrapping, so when I am doing layouts a lot of them are to advertise my kits. When I am working on a personal project, however, I use my own kits or kits I have purchased from other designers. There are too many good designers out there and sometimes I just have to have something in a style other than my own.
4. What is your all-time favorite product OR what is your best selling product(s)?
My all-time favorite product is constantly changing. I believe that as I grow as a designer, and learn more my kits get better and better. Right now I am rather partial to “Memory Lane”, although I will always love my “Recollections” collection that includes elements to put together your own family trees. My new featured designer kit Afternoon Delight is nice, too!
5. What are your reasons or motivations for digital scrapbooking?
I started digital scrapbooking because I loved the look of traditional scrapbook pages, but I didn’t particularly care for all the supplies that were needed. My sisters are traditional scrapbookers and they have whole rooms that are dedicated to it. I like the fact that all my supplies can be kept on the hard drive of my computer.
I am also the family historian and have been researching family history for many years. I believe it is important to preserve our family heritage for future generations. Anyone who has ever done any genealogy research knows that traditional genealogical reports with their charts and notations tend to be extremely dry (read boring). Digital scrapbooking actually brings the ancestors to life through words and pictures.
6. What is the best food you ever ate? Describe.
I love to cook and I love food of all descriptions. I don’t really have a favorite.
7. Where is your “happy place?”
My home is my happy place. If I had to pick a particular place, it would be in my claw foot bathtub, in hot water up to my neck, with a good book. It is totally relaxing and the perfect way to unwind.

8. If you won the lottery, how would you spend the winnings?
I would pay off all my debt, build my dream house, then travel. I would also share the wealth with other relatives and friends.
9. If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would you chose and what would you want to talk about?
I would like to talk to one of the colonists from the lost colony at Roanoke, VA. It’s an intriguing story and I would really like to know what happened to them! Another choice would be Leonardo da Vinci. The man was brilliant, with a wide variety of interests from mathematics to art and botany. I would be interesting to see what he thought of the today’s world and the fact that many of his inventions, that were scoffed at in his day, are actually viable.
10. What else should we know about you?
I am a laid back, easygoing suburbanite, transplanted to a rural area who would never go back! I love my country home in its country setting with all the old growth trees and my gardens. I love being surrounded by nature and the privacy that my country home provides. I am a lover of life and try to live each day to its fullest. The only thing my life is lacking at this point is a good internet connection!
Stop by every day June 23 – July 6 and download a piece of my new kit “Afternoon Delight”. If you just can’t wait, the full kit is available for sale in my store along with some an add-on pack with more papers and elements, a cluster pack, and an alpha.
