Journal on photos: We left home well before sunrise, and boarded the ferry in Anacortes in clouds and drizzle and sub-freezing wind.
For most of the 3-hour ferry ride the sky was overcast. Occasionally a break in the clouds allowed glimpses of snowy peaks in both the U.S. and Canada. We spotted a few seals near the ferry, but no orcas.

To our delight, Sidney, BC greeted us with sunshine and a brisk breeze. Perfect!
