My mother was a gifted musician who could play the piano and sing beautifully. She was an excellent piano teacher for many years and, of course, my sister and I dutifully took lessons and practiced for hours. Each year all of the pupils would dress up in our finery and present our carefully prepared pieces for our proud parents at the recital. While we could both play passably, neither of us inherited our mother's talent. My sister and I in about 1958.
