My dh's grandparents in one of the few photos we have of them.
Journaling reads:
Emmett and Livie
Married 1904
They raised 3 sons---
Robert, Clifford and Roy
on the family farmstead in PA.
Some of the tales of them tell of
their love of family.--one story tells he
would let his grandchildren run the day on
Christmas-even to the point that one grandson
knocked the paper out of his daddy's hands and
when his daddy went to punish him, Emmett said
"Sit down-this is the kid's day.".
Another tells that the 3 sons would pick their mother up and put her on top of the
"icebox" which brought gales of laughter
and giggles from her. When she would cook a meal there was so much food to feed her
"boys" that one daughter in law just sat open mouthed at the table.
The Shaffer Covered Bridge in the photo below still
stands next to this house in their photo along Somerset Pike in PA and is on record as a historical site in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Their great great grandchildren go out there to wade in the creek at least once a year.

The bridge journaling reads:
Shaffer Bridge-added to National Register of Historic
Places in 1980. We think it originally was built by Emmett's father -but we have never been able to confirm or deny it.
Thanks for looking!
