Some of the Cuban sayings don’t really translate, but here goes: ‘Oh My God!’ I heard this often growing up, since I was always into something; ‘Rosy, Ana, Johnny’ We knew that whomever got called last was the one she wanted.; ‘Eat or you’ll get sick’ She grew up very poor and equated food to health; ‘Tin marin de dos pinguino’ Nursery rhyme having something to do with penguins. She never sang the whole song just this little part. I don’t think she even remembers the rhyme.; ‘Si no se sana hoy se sana mañana’ If it doesn’t heal today there is always tomorrow; ‘Vas a coger aire si sales vestida asi’ You’ll get a chill if you go out dressed like that…we live in Miami.; ‘Te pongo vis-va-paru para la toz’ Vick was used in my house for every ailment from cough to headaches; ‘Ya sabes freir un huevo, te puedes casar’ You can fry an egg, now you can get married. In other words, you know it all.; ‘Te vas a quedar bizca si haces eso’ Whenever we made a face, she would say that we would become cross eyed; ‘Yo oigo bien’ I can hear fine…she is deaf as a door nail.
