Dad and his Uncle Robert both served their countries in WWII. Dad fought on the American side and his Uncle Robert fought on the German side. Because Dad had many relatives in Germany he was stationed in the South Pacific.
I often wonder how Grandma Schmidt felt about the fact that her son and her brother were enemies in the same war. That had to be hard to take, though I am sure that many families were facing the same situation.
Shortly after the war ended, Dad’s Uncle Robert committed suicide by jumping off a bridge.

What a dilemma for your grandmother! So glad your dad survived - or we wouldn't have all your talents! Love the vintage page. That diagonal lace is great idea!<br>

Great layout. The situation was similar with my family during WWII. My grandfather was stationed in the Pacific arena because of his close relatives in Germany as well.
