When Sydney saw news reports on TV about the Tsunami in Indonesia in December, she wanted to do something to help the children that had been hurt. She tried to come up with ideas of how she could earn some money to send to them. She asked her Mommy if she could work around the house and earn some money. But then she decided that she could have a bake sale at our church. Kellan told Sydney to call Pastor David and ask him if she could do that. So, at five years of age, Syd called Pastor and said, "Pastor, I'm going to have a bake sale at church on Sunday!" David said, "You are?" In the background, Kellan is telling Sydney to ASK him if she could have a bake sale instead of TELLING him she is. Of course Pastor thought that was a great idea and loved it that someone so young wanted to do something for someone else. The church had already taken up donations and that money had been sent to Mission of Mercy.
So, Sydney set about delegating things for everyone to do. Mommy would bake some goodies and Yay-Yay would print out and package some notecards from drawings that Sydney had done. With some help from the adults in Syd's life, her bake sale was a tremendous success!
Journaliing on left page reads:
Sydney’s friend, Emily, came to church with Syd to help her with the bake sale. Lindsey was there to lend a helping had, too. It was wonderful seeing these little girls doing something to help others.
After the Tsunami tragedy in Indonesia on December 26, 2004, Sydney wanted to do something to help the children who were hurt. She came up with the idea to have a bake sale at our church, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship. She enlisted her Mommy’s and my help. She asked Kellan to bake some cookies and brownies. She asked me to print some notecards that she drew. Well, of course, we were happy to help her help others.
Journaling on right page reads:
When Kellan’s friends heard what Sydney wanted to do, several of them donated all kinds of baked goodies to Syd’s sale. Everyone who bought anything paid at least five times what Syd was asking for the items. So, with everyone being so generous, and after Kellan and Jamey made their donation and after Pastor David matched what Syd made at the bake sale, she had almost a $1,000 for Pastor to send to the Mission of Mercy. This group is a nonprofit organization, who seeks to restore dignity to all people by being an instrument of "healing through Love," and by the reciprocal sharing of God’s mercy with those we serve.
This was one of those LOs that I wasn't necessarily interested in making beautiful. The pictures weren't the greatest, but I wanted to record the memory. The background on the left page is from my "Let's BBQ" kit. The denim background on the right page is from one of my other kits, don't remember which one. The clip art is from pcCrafter.
What a wonderful story and layout! And, what a remarkable young lady!

Glenda, this is just awesome. Being in Australia, I knew many people who had been touched in some way by the Tsunami. To know that children like Sydney have such a giving spirit creates confidence in the future of our world.
