journal: New Mexico was the perfect destination for our escape-from-winter trip! It was hot and sunny every day - real desert flying conditions. We don’t do the big scary air any more, so we’d go up to launch in the morning before the day heated up, and had fun flights all three days. We could see White Sands National Monument from launch - cool! It was a long reach out to the LZ, but for paragliders there were plenty of safe outlanding options if the lift wasn’t plentiful. We made the LZ on our first flight, but C.J. landed out, once on a dirt road and once on a closed section of paved road just one mesquite field short of the LZ. George had just enough altitude to squeak into the LZ and hit the spot on his second and last flight, giving him first place in the spotlanding
contest and a cool hand-made trophy.
